BESIGN WALK

2025 / 01 / 16

The MTR wayfinding system combines clear path guidance, graphic symbols, and bilingual signage in a sophisticated manner, allowing every passenger to quickly find their way.

The M+ Museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District perfectly embodies Hong Kong's support for artistic creation with its avant-garde exhibitions and highly designed spaces.

In early January, the Besign team traveled to Hong Kong for a design walk journey. From Central to the Kowloon Peninsula, we immersed ourselves in the city's slightly different design philosophy, deeply experiencing the unique design language and practices created by the fusion of Eastern and Western cultures.

The MTR's signage system has long been considered a classic example of urban transport design. The clear path guidance, graphical symbols, and clever combination of bilingual signs allow every passenger to quickly find their way. The MTR's signage design emphasizes the balance between efficiency of information delivery and user experience, with attention to color, typography, and layout showcasing a philosophy of simplicity and precision. This extreme attention to detail is worth emulating for every designer.

As an international city, Hong Kong's design context consistently reflects the blending of Eastern and Western cultures. Whether it's neon signs on the streets or informational signage in public spaces, the choice of English fonts and typographic design is meticulously considered. Simple sans-serif fonts and alignment not only enhance readability but also embody an international visual language. The widespread use of bilingual design in Hong Kong is a testament to cultural inclusivity and inspires us on how to achieve diverse cultural expression through design.

The M+ Museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District perfectly interprets Hong Kong's support for artistic creation with its pioneering exhibition content and highly designed space. Whether it's the open architectural design or the displayed art pieces, M+ continually explores the relationship between design, culture, and society. When night falls, the museum shines brightly in the night view of Victoria Harbour, becoming the best representation of the interplay between design and the city.

Design is a continuously dynamic value booster. The design walk in Hong Kong provided us with countless inspirations, making us understand more deeply how design performs in different cultural contexts.

In 2025, Besign plans to explore more cities to discover unique design philosophies and cultural landscapes. The significance of design lies in transcending the boundaries of languages and regions, and our design journey will continue to leave new thoughts and impressions in more places.
